Employee Onboarding: How we successfully adapted in a pandemic

    Professional Development - RSVP

    Aug 2, 12:00 - 13:00 (ET)
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a  pandemic . While the world took cover, healthcare heroes came out and got the job done but in order to start that job, they first needed to be on boarded. Turning to the virtual world to make this possible, the informatics training team took center stage in facilitating new employee orientation, conducting provider trainings remotely and onboarding new residents to our health system. Despite the challenges faced, the informatics team pivoted and rose to the challenge, successfully onboarding over 200 residents that summer and each summer moving forward along with hundreds of new employees both clinical and non-clinical. Join us for a lunchtime educational session on how a multi-hospital organization successfully went from in-person to virtual employee onboarding overnight. #EmployeeEducation #EmployeeOnboarding #Virtuallearning #ProviderEducation ANIA Members: Please click on the [ RSVP] button below to register.  Non-ANIA Members: Click to register on Eventbrite. In order to receive your nursing CEU, an evaluation survey will be sent to you.

The ability to distinguish the degree of intent, level of culpability, and reason for a person’s behavioral choices have become an important part of event investigation. Further development of this work has formalized the principles of just culture as a foundational component of both a culture of safety and workplace justice. The speaker will describe the intersection between just culture and a culture of safety with examples from her work as a hospital-based patient safety officer and a consultant. Anne is a patient safety professional with more than 15 years of experience working with hospitals and health systems in North America, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. She has particular interest in the measurement and understanding of culture and its contributions to patient safety and staff engagement, the implementation of Just Culture principles, and the use of event reporting data to identify system defects and drive change. She has extensive experience interpreting quantitative survey data and facilitating groups of individuals to elicit feedback and context regarding their work environments to inform safety initiatives.    Currently the Patient Safety and Just Culture Advisor for Intermountain Health Peaks Region (formerly SCL Health), Anne was previously a Senior Advisor at the Just Culture Company and Senior Director of Patient Safety and Quality at Safe & Reliable Healthcare. During her years as a consultant, she has worked with wide variety of facilities, from academic medical centers to critical access hospitals.    She has served as the Director of Patient Safety at both tertiary and community hospitals, where she has been responsible for the oversight of the patient safety program, including adverse event reporting, regulatory accreditation, the culture and engagement survey, and the peer review and grievance resolution processes for both the acute care hospital and the ambulatory practices. Ms Millman began her career in patient safety while a Research Associate Faculty member in the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management, when she became a member of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Quality and Safety Research Group (QSRG), headed by Dr Peter Pronovost. She has first-authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on a broad variety of patient safety topics.      Ms Millman received her Master’s Degree in Technical and Scientific Writing from Towson University and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Goucher College, with a Bachelors in English Literature.
