May 6, 12:00 - 13:00 (CT)
EHR downtimes can create significant patient safety risks, yet many new graduate nurses receive little to no formal training in paper documentation. With nursing education increasingly focused on electronic charting, new graduate nurses often lack confidence in handling verbal orders, labeling specimens, and administering medications without barcode scanning. This session, led by Mike Allen, DNP, RN, CCRN, CPHIMS, NI-BC from Indiana University Health, explores an innovative Escape Room (ER) training approach designed to improve downtime preparedness. Attendees will learn how interactive, real-world scenarios can boost confidence, reduce anxiety, and enhance patient safety during EHR disruptions. Join us to discover how gamified learning can transform nursing readiness for downtime events!
