    We are currently on the lookout for enthusiastic new members to join our American Nursing Informatics Education Committee. Our committee is a vibrant team that meets for just 30 minutes once a month. Our main goal is to recruit engaging speakers for our monthly education sessions.

    ANIA membership is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your resume and make a meaningful contribution to the field of Nursing Informatics. It’s a rewarding way to give back to the community and promote Nursing Informatics as a career.

  • Speaker Opportunities

    Do you have a project you'd like to share? We are currently in the process of recruiting speakers for the ANIA Great Lakes Chapter Education Events. These events are a fantastic platform for showcasing the important work you have done in the arena of healthcare and clinical informatics.

    The events are held on the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday during the lunch hour and provide attendees 1 contact hour. If you have a passion for sharing your knowledge and experiences, we would love to hear from you! This is a great chance to highlight your contributions and connect with others in the field.

    If you are interested in presenting, please reach out to us. We look forward to hearing from you and potentially having you as a speaker at one of our upcoming events!

  • Welcome New Board Members!!

    President: Carleen Penoza, MHSA, BSN, RN, NI-BC

    Carleen has served as President-Elect for the past two years and previously held the role of Secretary. She is the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at Michigan Medicine, an academic medical center in Ann Arbor. In her role, Carleen oversees both the Nursing Informatics and Nursing Information Systems teams. She is responsible for all aspects of electronic patient care systems, driving initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency for bedside staff and support increased patient-centered care.

    President-Elect: Donna Summers, MSN RN, NI-BC

    Donna has served as the chapter secretary for the past two years and will now serve as the president-elect. 

    Donna has been the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at Henry Ford Health since 2017, leading nursing technology strategy across the organization's hospitals and all ambulatory teams. She is also active in MONL, AINL, HIMSS, ANA, and the Epic RN Nurse Efficiency Committee. Donna also received recognition by Crain's Detroit Business 2025 as one of the Notable Leaders in Health Care Technology.

    Secretary: Patrick Joswick, DNP, AGNP-C, RN

    Patrick has served as the Clinical Editor at Elsevier since 2023, authoring and maintaining evidence-aligned content used in clinical workflows. He was previously the Director of Nursing at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, where he continues to teach as adjunct faculty. Justin recently completed a Health Informatics Post-Graduate Certificate at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

    Webmaster/Member Coordination: Danielle Cottrell, MSN, RN, CCRN

    Danielle is a Senior Application Analyst-Epic RN at Henry Ford Health, where she collaborates with end users to design, optimize, and implement clinical documentation workflows within the electronic health record. Her focus is on enhancing usability, safety, and efficiency in clinical documentation while supporting multidisciplinary teams in developing sustainable solutions. 

    A warm thank you to those who have served in these roles during the previous term. Your thoughts, insights, feedback, and smiles were truly appreciated!

    Are you ready to make a difference in the nursing informatics community? The Great Lakes ANIA Chapter seeks passionate, dedicated individuals to fill key board positions. 

    Vice President (President Elect)

    • Serves alongside the Chapter President in order to orient to the role and function of the president
      • Act in the capacity of Executive Officer in absence of the chapter President
      • Perform other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the President

    Secretary

    • Keeper of the minutes of the meetings
    • See that notices are given according to bylaws
    • Other duties as assigned by the Chapter President or board of Directors
    • Submits reports to the Chapter President , members, and National Office
    • Posts minutes on the website
    • May serve as the primary webmaster

    Webmaster/Member Coordinator

    • Maintains/updates website as necessary
    • Posts upcoming events
    • Solicits new members through various means (i.e. website posts, LinkedIn postings, etc.)
