From Jill Evans Ohio ANIA Chapter President
I wanted to take some time to thank you all for continuing to be members of the Ohio Chapter of ANIA and moving forward Nursing Informatics within your organizations.
As our new year starts, I wanted to send a sincere Thank You to our out-going officers, past President Barb Bungard and past Treasurer Michael O’Malley. Both worked very hard for our Chapter over the past year traversing a new landscape as all our meetings and educational offerings needed to be moved virtual. All of us strived to keep the chapter up to date with what was going on and offering a venue to learn a little bit more about the organizations we all represent. Barb did a wonderful job thinking of topics all members would be interested in and finding members and organizational leaders to speak at our educational offerings and our year end meeting. A very big THANK YOU to Michael who worked to get our final meeting/educational session to be eligible for CEUs for all of us who attended. Thank you to Renee Vitullo, our very first Chapter President, for posting all our offerings and newsletters on our Chapter web page.
I also want to take some time to Welcome our newest members of the Ohio ANIA leadership team: President-elect Stacy Farnan and Treasurer Karen Goda.
Here is a little bit about our newest Ohio Chapter leaders:
Stacy Farnan MSN, RN is a Clinical Informatic Analyst II at MetroHealth Systems in Cleveland, Ohio. Stacy studied at the University of Missouri graduating with a Biology degree working as a laboratory technologist at a nuclear research reactor. Stacy went on to receive her BSN for Ursuline college and worked at MetroHealth as a Med-Surg nurse for several years then becoming a Trauma case Manager. Stacy transitioned into her role as a Clinical Analyst II on the inpatient team in 2017 while finishing her MSN through Chamberlain College.
In Stacy’s Informatics role she is working/has worked on projects such as MetroHealth’s order Set review and maintenance process, human trafficking documentation workflows, and is the lead Informaticist for the implementation of Transfer Center and MetroHealth’s Hospital@Home and Remote Patient Monitoring programs. Stacy is a mother of 6 and resides in Northeast Ohio.
Karen Goda, ND, RN-BC is a Program Manager in Nursing Informatics and Evidence-Based Practice at Bon Secours Mercy Health and serves as the nurse informaticist for ambulatory and post-acute care. Karen was a neonatal intensive care/stepdown nurse for many years and then transitioned to pediatric ambulatory nursing. Her nursing informatics journey started as an instructor and then transitioned to a builder role for multiple Epic applications/modules for several health systems. Karen has been ANCC Board Certified in Informatics Nursing since 2014. She has served on the ANCC Standard Setting Study for Informatics Nursing, assisting in the development of the certification exam. Karen has recently completed a term as a Commissioner on Certification for the ANCC, which allowed her to promote excellence in nursing and help create programs to recognize the individual nurse. Professional memberships include ANIA and HIMSS. Karen and her husband have two grown children and live on the far east side of Cleveland. In her spare time, she likes working on multiple knitting projects, buying way too much yarn, and taking the dog on walks to chase squirrels.
We are working on this year’s educational offering sessions and meetings. Much like 2020, we are planning to maintain the virtual platform throughout 2021. As a team we are brainstorming ideas of educational offerings so if you have any ideas, would like to present a topic, or would like to highlight your organization in the Chapter newsletter, please contact me at jevans@metrohealth.org. We are looking for other ways for the chapter to communicate and stay in touch with its members, if you have any ideas, please contact any of us (contact information below).
Again – thank you all for participating in the Ohio ANIA Chapter and I look forward to seeing you all virtually this year.
Jill Evans MSN, RN, RN-BC
