Chapter Mission

Our mission is to engage the South Texas community of Informatics Nursing professionals to improve health care delivery by leveraging technology, information management, and education.


About the Chapter

The South Texas Chapter covers Austin through Corpus Christi. Our home base is located at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Our members work in a variety of settings such as hospitals, universities, government, and technology agencies. Many work as educators, project managers, and consultants engaged in improving our health system by promoting nursing practice through nursing informatics.

Cory Taylor, MSN, RN-BC, PMP, CPHIMS serves as Sr. Clinical Informatics Analyst for HCA Healthcare’s Corporate Clinical Services Group (CSG) – Clinical Informatics (CI). Cory Taylor has practiced in Nursing and Informatics at HCA Healthcare since 2002. His previous experience includes Director of Advanced Clinicals, Unit Manager, and Facility Clinical Supervisor. Cory Taylor has practiced Nursing for Intensive Care Units (ICU - CV & Medical/Surgical), Telemetry, and Medical Surgical Units. Cory has served on many committees focused on leading healthcare quality improvement, nursing practice, and informatics.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Cory Taylor graduated from Del Mar College with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) in 2006. Since, he has received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Texas A & M University – Corpus Christi, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He also received a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - Informatics from Walden University, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Currently, Cory Taylor is pursuing a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Executive Leadership at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth), in Houston, TX (Expected Completion:  06/2020).

Cory Taylor has served on boards and committees. Most recently, he was the Secretary of the Board for the South Texas American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA). He is a board certified Nursing Informaticist (NI) from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), a Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) with the Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS), a Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute (PMI), a Certified Six Sigma Lean Black Belt (SSLBB) and Certified Six Sigma Champion with Management & Strategy Institute (MSI). 

Cory is married, and his wife is also a Registered Nurse. They have two children (Katelyn - 17, Bradley - 12). In their spare time they enjoy camping and traveling together. When not at home they can be found at the beach or creating new adventures and memories.
