University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston), The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) are pleased to announce the Third Annual Texas Health Informatics Alliance Conference. The conference will be held in person at the UTHealth Houston Cooley Center in Houston, Texas, on Friday, September 15, 2023.

THIA is a collective that aims to build informatics ties across Texas through partnerships in the following areas: research, data, policy, education, standards, and workforce development.

THIA is inviting researchers, developers, health professionals, information management professionals, data and information scientists, students, and anyone interested in health informatics to join the alliance and attend the conference.

The THIA conference will provide an opportunity to share, collaborate, and showcase the amazing work in health informatics and will feature presentations and keynote speakers from across Texas. The theme will be "ALL IN: Addressing Health Disparities, Barriers, and Inequities through Health Informatics".

Health disparities, barriers, and inequities are persistent challenges that affect marginalized communities, particularly those experiencing  systemic inequalities due to race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and geographic location. The field of health informatics has the potential to help address these challenges by leveraging digital technologies to improve access to care, enhance patient-provider communication, and promote health equity.

This conference will address health disparities by soliciting submissions on health data collection and analysis that can identify disparities in health outcomes, access to care, and health behaviors among different populations leading to targeted interventions and programs that address specific health disparities and barriers to care.

The conference will  focus on  the improvement of patient-provider communication and collaboration, which is critical in addressing health disparities. Health informatics can empower patients to take an active role in their own health care. This can lead to improved health outcomes and better adherence to treatment plans, particularly for patients who may face language or cultural barriers to accessing health care.

Telehealth and remote monitoring technologies that provide access to specialized care and reduce barriers to care such as transportation and time off work will also be discussed. Remote monitoring technologies will help patients manage chronic conditions and avoid hospitalizations, reducing health care costs and improving overall health outcomes.

"ALL IN: Addressing Health Disparities, Barriers, and Inequities through Health Informatics" will play a critical role in addressing health disparities, barriers, and inequities. By leveraging digital technologies to improve data collection and analysis, enhance patient-provider communication, and promote telehealth and remote monitoring, health informatics can help promote health equity and improve health outcomes for all populations.

This conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CDT on September 15. The registration fee is $80 through June 30, 2023, registration will be $100 in July and August. Registration closes on Friday, August 25 at 5 pm CST . Registration is available through the THIA 2023 website:
