    Hello everyone!

I hope you are doing well. Thank you for taking the time to review and reply to my post.

I have the honor of serving in healthcare for 14 years first starting as a CNA and working my way to BSN-RN servicing in multiple areas including Advanced Heart Failure, IV therapy, ER, and Pre- Informatics.

At this time I currently service in the PACU as staff and use multiple applications and equipment to care for my patients. I also find that informatics overlays into multiple fields we nurses find ourselves in.

To that note, I greatly am interested the area of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX) and looking at graduate level education to assist in the design and development of applications that will save lives.

I would welcome any suggestions and feedback on how I could be involved and assist in the development of applications and secure support toward graduate level education.

    Thank you all.

Hi Orlando!! Great to hear from you. I too have enjoyed our conversations over email. I look forward to the future and partnering with you all in GA ANIA.

I would enjoy learning more about each member,

    to start....

What do you enjoy about informatics?

How to did you start in the field?

Hello Justin.  Great to hear from you again.

I truly enjoy my role as a Nurse Informatics as it is challenging and rewarding almost every day.  I met very interesting people who have simple to complex problems they are looking to have technology play a role in solving. I serve in consulting role as well, which I believe all NIS (Nursing Informatics Specialist) are consultants.

My entry into the field was by pure expansion of my role as an Application Specialist at a medical device company.  For many years I supported the algorithms that assisted our products to aid clinical staff to make treatment decisions at the bedside.  As our solutions grew in complexity there became a great need to assist customer to integrate our solutions directly into the EHR and my NIS career began.  It has been a wonderful journey and continues to this day.

I hope you will be able to join us for our membership meetings that occur every other month.  Next time we meet will be 11 at 5pm.  I will be sure to send out reminders to the membership.  In the meantime, if you are interested in getting involved with the Chapter, please share your interest as we have opportunities for members to assist website management, looking for talent to speak to the members, membership drives and community service are just a few ways to get involved.

Also please share with me what brought your career down this path?  I believe you told me you are currently at the bedside as well, which is a great place to get that firsthand knowledge of how technology needs to continue to evolve to aid the bedside practitioner.

Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Orlando!

Thank you for sharing your experience and background.

You are correct I am at the bedside at this time. My wife and I moved to Atlanta for her to continue her study's and I took a position in the PACU as I continue to search and build my skills for my next informatics position/experience.

Prior to our move I was recently in two different informatics positions. One was a Clinical Informatics EHR Optimization Analyst. During that time I also working as a Clinical Informatics Transfer Center Coordinator. Each role consisted of using different types of technology to provide better patient care and communication among all stakeholders involved.

In the beginning my healthcare journey started as a CNA. I was in that position for 7 years prior to becoming an RN in 2017. I started on an advanced heart failure unit, moved into IV therapy, health plan consulting, and emergency room care.

During my time in different nursing positions I became more and more interested in how technology is used in healthcare. I later started learning about web design, and the HCI/UX (still very much a beginner at this stage). I am fascinated by the ability to create systems and tools to save lives.

This brings me to searching for ways to advance my studies towards a Master Degree specifically in Human Computer Interaction and User Experience/ Informatics/ Computer Science.

It is my hope to create solutions that make a difference and improve the lives of many.
