Regional Groups
We are trying to determine how many local or
regional groups of nursing informaticists currently exist in the State of
Florida. If you know of a local group, please send the name of the group,
and their contact information to ANIAFlorida@gmail.com.
We would like to extend an invitation to any groups not associated with another
national organization to be affiliated with our state chapter if they so
choose. If you are interested in starting a group in your area, please
contact us.
Advocacy
Krista Potthast-Haynes reported on her recent trip to Washington DC, where she attended the HIMSS 13th Annual Policy Summit. Krista joined HIMSS advocates from throughout the nation for education and training sessions focused on advocacy. She voiced the opportunity for collaboration between Florida ANIA Advocacy and South Florida HIMSS and Central and North Florida HIMSS Advocacy to transform healthcare delivery with HIT. She met with legislative representatives on Capitol Hill to advocate for HIMSS recommendations that include the following:

1. Funding for the National Coordinator for Health IT to Achieve Interoperability, Improve Clinical Quality and Ensure Patient Privacy and Safety.
2. Expand Telehealth Services to Improve Patient Access and Outcomes and Decrease Health Care Costs.
3. Congressional support to require the Secretary of HHS to publish a roadmap for all mandated, HHS-administered HIT requirements and program changes that impact patients, operations, payers and HIT vendors.
Highlights from the summit included speaker Karen B. DeSalvo, M.D., M.P.H., M.Sc., National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. Dr. DeSalvo oversees the ONC for HIT, which is a division of the DHHS. Her second highlight was meeting Judy Murphy, RN, FACMI, FHIMSS, FAAN, Chief Nursing Officer and Director, Office of Clinical Quality and Safety, Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, Department of Health and Human Services. Ms. Murphy was awarded the HIMSS Federal Health IT Leadership Award at the summit. CONGRATULATIONS!
2014 ANIA National Conference
Our ANIA Florida board was a huge success! Once the attendees registered, our board was the first thing that they saw and the last thing that they saw when they left the conference for the day. The picture above is the board designed by the Conference Board Committee: Krista Potthast-Haynes, Cheryl Toomey, Shereen White-Davis, Karie Ryan, Bonnie Lawrence and Crystal Soto. The poster board was setup and presented by Bonnie Lawrence, President and Shereen White-Davis, 2nd Vice President in Las Vegas.
