Project Summary:
As a part of the EHR workflow, powerplans (order sets) can be ordered in a “planned” state intended for future initiation by a clinician. However, if a powerplan is not initiated at that intended time, the orders remain inactive and patient care can be delayed. Use of this type of order set is common for post-surgical care and is intended to be initiated once the patient arrives at an inpatient location. To help ensure that orders were not missed, a discern alert was created to support inpatient nurses. Years after its implementation, planned care was still occasionally being missed and review of the alert found that it was over-alerting leading to alert fatigue and unclear expectations. This webinar will describe the challenges and accomplishments of an interdisciplinary team’s efforts to optimize this alert and associated workflow.
