Nursing Informatics Boot Camp


Thursday, July 20, 2017, to Friday, July 21, 2017

On July 20-21, 2017, the ANIA SoCal Chapter is sponsoring the Nursing Informatics Boot Camp, a 2-day course designed for Nursing Informatics professionals in the Southern California area.

This intensive two-day course focuses on current informatics trends and issues in health. It includes content for nurses interested in becoming Certified Informatics Nurses. Other clinical professionals working in informatics may wish to take the course to become exposed to the course topics.


Course Objectives

  1. Discuss the scope and standards of nursing informatics practice
  2. Describe professional practice, trends, and issues within the informatics nurse role
  3. Explore management and leadership issues affecting informatics in healthcare settings
  4. Identify key concepts in informatics, information technology, information management, knowledge generation and data security
  5. Consider human factors in relation to information technology systems
  6. Describe models and theories associated with informatics
  7. Delineate steps of the system life cycle as it applies to information technology in the health setting


Registration

ANIA Member Rates:

Early-bird rate through June 15 - $495
Regular rate June 16 through July 20 - $545

 

The Early Bird Registration fee must be paid prior to the Early Bird Deadline to avoid registration being canceled to make room for other paying participants.  The participant would then need to re-register at the non-Early Bird price.

 

Non-Member Rates:

Early-bird rate through June 15 - $545

Regular rate June 16 through July 20 - $595

 

*Regular registration fee must be paid prior to the cancellation deadline date, or participant will be removed from the class altogether.

 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation is allowed up to 1 week prior to the event.  Registration fee refund will be made for cancellation within the time frame, MINUS a $100 Cancellation Fee

Continuing Education

Participants will earn 14 contact hours of continuing education credits for attending this event. Please note that you must attend at least 50% of the course times and submit the evaluation to receive 7 contact hours. The Planning committee and speaker for this activity have no financial disclosures to provide.

Axxess Consult Inc. is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.


Speakers

Susan K. Newbold, Ph.D., RN-BC, FAAN, FHIMSS is a Healthcare Informatics Consultant, Franklin, TN. Previously she was the Education Lead for the implementation of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) at the Hospital Corporation of America, Nashville, TN. She is uniquely qualified to teach this course as she has experience in the vendor, consulting, academic and hospital world. Dr. Newbold is Board Certified in Nursing Informatics and initiated the first review course in nursing informatics in 1995 which she taught over 100 times. In 2001 she won the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing International Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement for this course. She is the HIMSS 2015 Chapter Leader of the Year awarded in 2016.

 

The second speaker is selected based on availability from a pool of candidates with recent informatics experience.
