This presentation focuses on the following objectives:

• Defining medical devices - Definition of a medical device and FDA classification of medical devices
• Discuss how medical devices assist with data collection- Types of medical device data, where medical device data is used today, and impact of medical device data on patient care
• Describe Joint Commissions’ 2017/2018 National Patient Safety Goals- How medical devices are impacted and ways medical device data can assist with NPSG recommendations
