Susan K. Newbold, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, FHIMSS, is a pioneer in the field of healthcare informatics. She is Director of the Nursing Informatics Boot Camp which is a two day intensive course. Dr. Newbold is a founder of CARING (now ANIA), a national nursing informatics organization advancing the delivery of quality healthcare through the integration of informatics in practice, education, administration, and research. Susan is co-author of five informatics books. She was a keynote speaker in the first NI conferences held in both Taiwan and Singapore and has consulted in the US, Australia, Canada, Qatar, Singapore, and Slovenia on healthcare informatics issues.
Susan is a Fellow in the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Newbold was awarded the HIMSS Chapter Leader of the Year presented in 2016. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing where she won the International Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement. Susan was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Award from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and awarded Nurse Educator of the Year by the Maryland Nurses Association. Dr. Newbold is a member of the National League for Nursing, HIMSS, and AMIA. She is Vice Chair, Communications, for the International Medical Informatics Association NI SIG. In 2010 she won the HIT MEN-HIT WOMEN award for improving patient care through health information technology. The Nashville Medical News selected her for the 2013 Class for Women to Watch. She received the award for the HIMSS Chapter Leader of the Year in 2016.
